On former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s 54th birthday on Wednesday, Luv Films dropped the first look of the cricketer’s upcoming biopic, DADA: The Sourav Ganguly Story. The film, starring Rajkummar Rao, will hit the screens on May 14 next year. It chronicles the extraordinary journey of the man who didn’t just play the game but changed it.

The official first-look poster captures Rajkummar Rao in a cinematic recreation of Sourav Ganguly’s iconic jersey-waving moment at Lord’s balcony following India’s historic NatWest Trophy triumph over England in 2002. Widely regarded as a defining image, the celebration came to symbolize a fearless new era of Indian cricket under Ganguly’s leadership and remains an enduring emblem of confidence, defiance, and belief.
For the caption, the makers wrote: “Happy Birthday, our dearest Dada.”

DADA: The Sourav Ganguly Story is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, presented by Gulshan Kumar, Bhushan Kumar, T-Series, and DBL, and is a Luv Films production. The film also features Tanya Maniktala as Dona Ganguly.
About Sourav Ganguly
Ganguly is popularly called the Maharaja of Indian Cricket. As captain, he led the Indian national team to victory in the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy and to the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup, the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy, and the 2004 Asia Cup. He announced his retirement from international cricket in 2008 and from all forms of cricket in 2012. Ganguly was awarded India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri, in 2004.
