The phrase “peak detailing” became one of the biggest pop culture moments to emerge from Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar franchise. What started as praise for the filmmaker’s meticulous attention to detail soon snowballed into a viral meme across social media. Now, actor R Madhavan has revealed just how seriously Dhar took that commitment, sharing that the filmmaker reportedly spent an additional Rs 10 crore purely on perfecting the finer details of the films.
Aditya Dhar spent Rs 10 crore on detailing
Speaking to Glute.com, Madhavan reflected on Dhar’s filmmaking process and admitted he would have questioned the decision had he heard about it before the film’s release.
“Can you imagine a project that is so lengthy, like eight hours, in which you have to invest time to add details you have in your mind, but which might be missed? Now, if somebody was told before the film that they spent Rs 10 crore extra only towards this peak detailing, they’d say, ‘You’re mad. Who sees all that? Nobody sees. It won’t be seen.’ I would have said it,” the actor said.
Madhavan played a pivotal role in Dhurandhar and its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, both of which were praised for their intricate storytelling and visual precision. The films’ attention to detail quickly became a talking point among audiences, with “peak detailing by Aditya Dhar” turning into a viral catchphrase and spawning countless memes online. Dhar himself later acknowledged the trend on social media, thanking fans for their love and saying he thoroughly enjoyed the memes.
R Madhavan on evolving storytelling
Madhavan also opened up about how the franchise’s phenomenal success reinforced his belief in evolving storytelling.
“For me, it shook me up because… no, actually I won’t say it shook me up. I think it reiterated what I’ve been believing for the longest time. I needed an endorsement that I’m going in the right direction. It reaffirmed my faith that our storytellers have to catch up with our audience. I think that’s the biggest revelation,” he shared.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the two-part franchise stars Ranveer Singh in the lead alongside Sara Arjun, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and Rakesh Bedi. The first film reportedly grossed around Rs 1,300 crore worldwide, while Dhurandhar: The Revenge went on to cross Rs 1,800 crore globally, becoming the first Bollywood film to collect over Rs 1,000 crore at the Indian box office.
Meanwhile, Madhavan was last seen in the biographical drama G.D.N., based on the life of inventor and engineer G D Naidu, which released in theatres on August 7.
