Mirzapur The Movie: Rasika Dugal says her character Beena is the puppeteer

Rasika Dugal is ready to slip back into the world of Mirzapur, but this time, Beena Tripathi is making the jump from streaming screens to cinemas. The actor will reprise one of her most memorable roles in Mirzapur: The Movie, and she says playing the mysterious and increasingly powerful Beena has been one of the biggest challenges of her career.
Rasika Dugal on playing Beena
In an interview with Variety India, Rasika spoke about returning to the character, her journey across the show’s seasons and what audiences can expect when Mirzapur gets its theatrical outing.
Beena has never been a character to fit neatly into one box. Over the seasons, she has gone from appearing trapped within the Tripathi household to becoming one of the sharpest players in the game. Rasika says the physicality of the role has been particularly challenging.
“I didn’t want to play to the gallery without any physicality because it would really take away from the dignity of the character,” she said, adding that she had little previous experience playing someone “who wears their sexuality on their sleeve.”
Despite the challenges, returning to Beena remains an experience she thoroughly enjoys. “I live vicariously through Beena,” Rasika said. “It’s a different role to do and a different way of being for me. I am thrilled about being Beena. She makes me feel sexy.”
The actor also hinted that the upcoming film may offer audiences a little more insight into the woman behind all the mystery. “She’s been there for all seasons. She’s a mysterious woman. The film gives her mysteriousness some context,” she teased.
Beena pulls the strings in Mirzapur The Movie
Reflecting on Beena’s evolution, Rasika credited writer Puneet Krishna for giving the character her growing sense of power. While Beena may not always seek the spotlight, she knows exactly how to use the people around her to her advantage.
“She also knows people’s weaknesses and how to play with them. She’s the puppeteer,” Rasika said. The actor added that moving from a long-format series to a film did not require her to rebuild the character from scratch. After several seasons, the groundwork had already been laid, making it easier to continue Beena’s journey on the big screen.
Rasika will also reunite with Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu, who play Kaleen Bhaiyya and Munna Tripathi. Speaking about her co-stars, she praised Pankaj’s attention to detail and said she often discovers new layers in his performance when watching their scenes later.
As for what fans should expect from Beena in Mirzapur: The Movie, Rasika is keeping her cards close to her chest. But she did leave audiences with one ominous reminder, “It doesn’t end till it ends. Audiences should remember that.”
