Tanishaa Mukerji has publicly called out the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) over an alleged electricity disconnection at her ancestral property in Lonavala. The actor, who is Kajol’s sister, took to X on Tuesday to express her anger over what she claimed was a hefty electricity bill and the subsequent disconnection of power.
Calling the local electricity board “mafia”, Tanishaa alleged that officials disconnected the electricity even before the bill’s due date. In her post, she also claimed that the action left residents with no choice but to make the payment. She wrote, “Maharashtra state electricity board in lonavala are behaving like mafia! They are giving huge bills and forcing payment by cutting off electricity. This is just criminal!”

Tanishaa further alleged that officials arrived on a Saturday evening to disconnect the power. She tagged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tata Power and other handles, urging them to intervene. She wrote, “There is no regulation. They are just doing whatever they want! inhuman.”
The actor’s post quickly drew reactions from social media users, with several people responding to her concerns.
Tanishaa’s ancestral Lonavala home
The property in question holds considerable sentimental value for Tanishaa and her family. Earlier this year, she gave followers a glimpse of her grandmother Shobna Samarth’s ancestral home in Lonavala, which she renovated and converted into a heritage homestay called Frangipani House.
Sharing pictures and a tour of the property on Instagram in June, Tanishaa described it as the home of her “legendary superstar Grandmother”. She said every corner of the house carried a story and explained that she had redesigned the space while retaining its original character.
Tanishaa also revealed that she deliberately avoided overdeveloping the property and chose not to cut down the trees planted by her grandmother. The actor shared that the property had been an important part of both her childhood and her mother Tanuja’s childhood.
Tanishaa’s acting journey
Tanishaa made her Bollywood debut with Sssshhh in 2003, starring alongside Karan Nath and Dino Morea. She later appeared in films including Sarkar and Neal ’n’ Nikki, besides featuring in the Tamil film Unnale Unnale, for which she received a Vijay Award nomination.
She gained wider recognition after participating in Bigg Boss 7 in 2013, where she emerged as the first runner-up. Her relationship with fellow contestant Armaan Kohli also became a major talking point during the season.
Tanishaa subsequently participated in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7 and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11. She later appeared as a judge on Gangs of Haseepur. Her most recent film appearance was in the 2024 release Luv You Shankar.
