4 Haryana govt school students selected for Japan’s Sakura Science Programme

Four meritorious students from government schools in Haryana have been selected for Japan’s prestigious Sakura Science Programme-2026. The selected students — Dhruv, Diksha, Khushi and Sapna — will gain global exposure in the field of science and technology under the aegis of the Haryana School Shiksha Pariyojna Parishad.

The four students are among 56 selected from across the country for the programme.

The selected students left for New Delhi from the office of the District Project Coordinator (Samagra Shiksha) in Narnaul on Friday for the international visit.

The journey was flagged off by Shivraj Singh in the presence of District Project Coordinator and Nodal Officer Dilbagh Singh and District Science Expert Ravinder.

The selected students include Dhruv, a student of Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School; Sapna, a student of Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School; and Khushi and Diksha, natives of Bhiwani and Fatehabad respectively, who are currently studying at Government Senior Secondary School under the government’s ambitious Super 100 programme.

The main objective of the programme, run by the Japan Science and Technology Agency, is to promote scientific temperament among young minds.

During the programme, scheduled from May 24 to 30, the students will visit Japan’s leading universities and advanced research laboratories. They will also get an opportunity to attend lectures by Nobel Prize-winning scientists and interact with them.

The students will further observe and learn about mechanics, artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies. They will also participate in joint activities with Japanese students to gain insights into the country’s education system and work culture.

A notable feature of this invitation-based programme is that students cannot apply directly. Selection is based on exceptional academic records, achievements in science, performance in the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Examination, Inspire Award standards and participation in various science-related activities.

The Ministry of Education and the Department of Science and Technology serve as nodal agencies for the programme, while the entire cost of the trip is being borne by the Government of India.
