Rana Daggubati backs 'Scary Picture' starring Kangana Ranaut

Actor and producer Rana Daggubati has an unexpected horror treat in store for moviegoers. At HorrorCon India 2026 in New Delhi, the actor announced his upcoming production venture, Scary Picture, featuring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role. The film will be directed by Telugu filmmaker Ravi Babu, marking his debut as a Hindi feature-film director. The announcement has generated curiosity, particularly because of the unusual combination of Rana, Kangana and a filmmaker known for experimenting with unconventional storytelling.
What did Rana Daggubati announce?
Rana Daggubati unveiled the project during his appearance at HorrorCon India 2026, held in New Delhi around Halloween. Speaking about the film, he confirmed that it belongs to the horror genre and will be directed by his friend Ravi Babu. He said, “So, it’s a horror film. It’s by a director called Ravi Babu, who is a friend of mine. He’s made multiple horror films in Telugu. And this is his first Hindi feature.”
Rana Daggubati also revealed that the announcement was being made at the event for the first time, without prior communication to the Hindi film press. Kangana Ranaut acknowledged the announcement by reposting a video from the event on her Instagram account.
Who is Ravi Babu? All about the director
Ravi Babu is known for his unconventional approach to Telugu filmmaking. The son of veteran actor Chalapathi Rao, he has worked as both an actor and director, exploring different genres throughout his career. One of his more unusual projects was Adhugo (2018), a film that placed a piglet at the centre of its story. His filmography also includes thrillers, comedy and experimental narratives.
As reported by Hindustan Times, his upcoming project Scary Picture will be his first Hindi feature film. This makes the collaboration particularly interesting, as audiences will get to see how his distinct filmmaking sensibilities translate into Hindi cinema.
Kangana Ranaut’s return to horror
Kangana has previously explored the horror genre in films such as Raaz: The Mystery Continues (2009) and the Tamil horror-comedy Chandramukhi 2 (2023), which also featured Raghava Lawrence. The actor was last seen in Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, which she also produced. She is also associated with upcoming projects, including Queen 2 and Circle.
What to expect from Scary Picture?
While the makers have not revealed the film’s storyline, release date or further cast details, the combination of Rana Daggubati’s production experience, Kangana’s screen presence and Ravi Babu’s experimental filmmaking makes this an intriguing project. With horror finding an increasingly prominent place in Indian cinema, Scary Picture could bring an interesting new collaboration to the big screen. For now, audiences will have to wait for the makers to share more details.
