Aamir Khan's friend says critics dont see how well he handled his past marriages

Aamir Khan’s third marriage to Gauri Spratt has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with the actor facing criticism from a section of netizens since the couple tied the knot on July 5, 2026. Now, filmmaker and actor Amin Hajee, one of Aamir’s closest friends, has come out in his support, saying the superstar has always treated relationships with honesty, dignity and responsibility.

In an interview with Rediff, Amin Hajee said Aamir has never taken the institution of marriage lightly despite going through two divorces.
“I’ve known Aamir for over 35 years, and have always admired his respect for the institution of marriage. Many people become cynical after a failed relationship, but not him. He has always treated marriage with dignity,” Amin said.
Addressing the criticism surrounding Aamir’s personal life, he added, “People often joke about his personal life, but what they don’t see is how honest and fair he has been. Every time he has moved on in life, he has done so responsibly. He has always ensured that his former family and children were looked after. Very few people acknowledge this.”
Amin also described Aamir as a deeply emotional person, revealing that he has witnessed the actor struggle through heartbreak.
“I have seen him go through heartbreak. I have seen him cry. Relationships are never as simple as outsiders imagine, and it’s unfair to assume only one person is responsible when a marriage ends,” he shared.

Amin further reflected on Aamir’s work ethic, saying the actor’s complete dedication to filmmaking often comes at a personal cost.
“The truth is that Aamir is completely devoted to his work. Everything he does, he does with honesty and passion. That level of commitment comes at a personal cost. Anyone living with a person so deeply immersed in their work can sometimes feel neglected,” he explained.
Aamir first married his childhood sweetheart Reena Dutta in 1986. The couple welcomed two children, Junaid and Ira, before ending their marriage after 16 years.
He later married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005 after the two met during the making of Lagaan. They became parents to son Azad Rao Khan via surrogacy before announcing their separation in 2021. Despite their divorce, Aamir and Kiran have continued to remain close friends and co-parent their son.
Earlier this month, Aamir married longtime friend Gauri Spratt in an intimate ceremony in Mumbai. The couple, who had reportedly known each other for nearly two decades, made their relationship public in June 2026 before exchanging vows on July 5 in the presence of family and close friends.
