Legal trouble over Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai song
A major legal battle recently erupted between Bollywood producer Vashu Bhagnani`s Pooja Entertainment and Tips Industries, its promoters Ramesh Taurani and Kumar Taurani, and filmmaker David Dhawan. Bhagnani has reportedly filed a Rs 400 crore lawsuit against the alleged unauthorised use of songs from the 1999 hit film Biwi No. 1 in their upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.
The dispute particularly revolves around the iconic tracks Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai, which originally featured in Biwi No. 1. The 1999 film was produced by Pooja Entertainment and directed by David Dhawan. According to Bhagnani, the two songs have been recreated and used in the upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai without acquiring the necessary permissions from his production house.
The suit was reportedly filed before the Bombay High Court, seeking damages worth Rs 400 crore. It also requested immediate injunctive relief to prevent the release, distribution, exhibition, streaming, and commercial exploitation of the film and any promotional material that includes the disputed songs. Bhagnani`s legal team argued that Pooja Entertainment continues to hold crucial rights over the original works and that the alleged use amounts to a violation of its intellectual property.
