A Mumbai sessions court has framed charges against Shariful Fakir, the accused in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, paving the way for the trial to begin. The development came on Friday, August 14, as the court formally charged Fakir in connection with the alleged attack on the actor at his Bandra residence in January 2025.
Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing case accused charged
Fakir, identified as a Bangladeshi national, faces charges including dacoity, house trespass, illegally entering India and staying in the country under a fictitious identity. Following the framing of charges, Fakir told the court that he had not been provided with a copy of the chargesheet and other relevant documents. The court subsequently directed the prosecution to supply him with the required records.
According to the police case, Fakir allegedly entered Saif Ali Khan’s residence on the 12th floor of a Bandra building through the bathroom in the early hours of January 16, 2025. Investigators have claimed that he climbed the building and entered the apartment without knowing that it belonged to the actor. He allegedly demanded money and held members of the household at knifepoint.

The alleged confrontation began after Fakir entered the bedroom of Saif’s younger son, Jehangir. A staff nurse at the residence reportedly confronted him and was allegedly attacked. The accused is also alleged to have demanded Rs 1 crore. When Saif woke up and intervened, Fakir allegedly attacked him with a knife.
Saif suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. The actor was discharged five days later. According to the police version, Fakir managed to flee from the residence following the confrontation and was arrested on January 19, 2025.
Meanwhile, Fakir’s bail plea remains pending before the sessions court. His lawyers have challenged the legality of his arrest, arguing that the police did not provide him with a copy of the grounds of arrest. The defence has contended that this omission makes the arrest illegal.
With charges now framed, the case is set to proceed to trial, where the prosecution and defence will present their respective evidence and arguments. The court proceedings will determine the validity of the allegations against Fakir. As the matter moves forward, the case continues to draw significant public attention because of the high-profile nature of the alleged attack on Saif Ali Khan.
