Sarke Chunar song row: Government instructs CBFC to take strict action

A video of the Hindi song, featuring Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi, was released on YouTube two days ago and quickly went viral for its shock value and lyrics that almost describe a sexual act. The song has come to the notice of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which has directed the Central Board of Film Certification to review the song and take strict measures.
Government directs CBFC to remove Nora Fatehi’s song
According to sources quoted by India Today, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to take strict action if the claims are verified. The ministry has reportedly asked the board to ensure that the song is removed from all media platforms.
Officials have also indicated that authorities may intensify monitoring of obscene or objectionable material in films and music videos. If necessary, changes to film certification rules could be considered to curb the circulation of such content.
Apart from the I&B Ministry, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has demanded an official ban on the song and said that such ‘vulgar and double-meaning content’ is unacceptable in Indian cinema.
Recently, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also issued a notice over the alleged use of objectionable and double-meaning lyrics in the song. Additionally, advocate and social activist Vineet Jindal filed a complaint with the cyber cell of the Delhi Police, seeking legal action against the makers of the track.
About Sarke Chunar song controversy
The latest controversy around Nora Fatehi centers on the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the film KD: The Devil. Soon after its release, the track drew widespread backlash for allegedly vulgar lyrics and suggestive choreography.
Critics, including singer Armaan Malik, called the writing a “new low”, while social media users labeled the content inappropriate. Even Kangana Ranaut slammed the song, saying, “Bollywood has crossed all limits with vulgarity, tactics, and attention-seeking. The entire country is condemning and reprimanding them. But I don’t think they have any shame.”
Sarke Chunar has been crooned by Mangli, with lyrics by Raqeeb Alam. The song is composed, arranged, and produced by Arjun Janya. Meanwhile, KD: The Devil is directed by Prem. The film features Dhruva Sarja in the lead, alongside Shilpa Shetty and V. Ravichandran.
