Veteran actor Mushtaq Khan, known for his iconic comic timing and roles in films such as Aashiqui, Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Welcome, has passed away at 75. He is survived by his wife and two children, a son and a daughter.
The actor died earlier this evening due to lung cancer, his business partner Shivam said. He was diagnosed with lung cancer five years ago and later recovered. However, the cancer recently relapsed, and he was admitted to Nanavati Hospital around 15 days ago. The disease had also spread to his liver.
Despite his health struggles, Mushtaq had several films lined up before his condition deteriorated. His last rites will take place tomorrow.
Who was Mushtaq Khan?
Khan made his acting debut in 1980 with Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai. Through his four decade plus career, the actor starred in multiple blockbusters and treated audience with memorable comic characters, including Aashiqui (1990), Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Hera Pheri (2000), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2005), Welcome (2007), Wanted (2009), Oh My God! (2012), Stree (2018), Gadar 2 (2023) and Stree 2 (2024).
In fact, his role in Anees Bazmee’s Welcome as one of Uday Shetty’s (Nana Patekar) men has gained such popularity over the years that it has turned into a social media meme. Khan also appeared in several hit shows like Bharat Ek Khoj (1988), Zabaan Sambhal Ke (1993), Adaalat (2010), and in an episode of the web series TVF Tripling (2019). Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain and the film and Sunny Deol-starrer Jaat were among Khan’s last few works.
