Pooja Bedi slams Shilpa Shinde for false sexual harassment case against producer

TV actor Shilpa Shinde recently sparked a controversy after she confessed that she had falsely filed a sexual harassment case against Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain producer Sanjay Kohli back in 2017. Following the confession, the actress has received a lot of backlash, with a men`s NGO even demanding legal action against her. Amid this, actor Pooja Bedi has also reacted strongly to the matter.
Pooja Bedi lashes out at Shilpa Shinde
Speaking to Variety India, Pooja Bedi said, “Any woman who weaponises laws meant to protect victims, be it for revenge, personal gain, leverage, publicity, or malice, is betraying the very cause those laws were created to serve. False accusations not only destroy innocent lives but also make it harder for genuine survivors to be believed. Such misuse of the law is unacceptable and must carry serious consequences.”
The actress also highlighted how women misuse laws devised to protect real victims of sexual harassment or abuse do harm to those who face real trauma, distress and exploitation. She went on to add that such cases sabotage the credibility of women who speak up about legitimate complaints and make it difficult for genuine victims to get justice.
Shilpa Shinde confesses to falsely accusing producer of sexual harassment
For the unversed, Shilpa, who became a household name with Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, exited the show in 2016. During that time, she accused the producer, Sanjay Kohli, of harassment and non-payment of dues. Although the matter was eventually settled, she recently revealed that the sexual harassment complaint was false.
During a podcast with Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa, Shilpa shared, “The case ended. Nobody knows this, and I’m not afraid of telling the truth. Even today, I will say this because it is a big thing. I filed a sexual harassment case against my producer because I had no other option. Eventually, I got out of that situation because the matter was settled. I filed the case on that basis because the police directly told you that if you want an FIR registered, you have to make serious allegations.”
Her remarks have sparked fresh debate on how the misuse of legal provisions, accountability in such cases, especially in cases of women`s rights and exploitation, has a broader impact on genuine victims seeking justice.
